K-Pop Crossover: Mindy Kaling Addresses Elle Magazine Controversy As G-Dragon Poses For Korean Cover!

Elle magazine has claimed the spotlight recently, both in the West with the Mindy Kaling controversy and the East with G-Dragon of Big Bang gracing the cover once again.

Recently, American actress Mindy Kaling graced the cover of the February issue of Elle magazine. But rather than celebrating her first fashion cover, critics quickly turned it into controversy.

The implication was that Mindy Kaling was only shot from the shoulder up in a close-up, whereas alternate covers for the "Women in Television" issue featuring Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler, and Allison Williams, were full-body shots.

"I didn't expect this reaction," said Kaling on David Letterman. "There was a weird reaction, which was, 'Does Elle magazine think Mindy's not skinny enough to show her whole body, standing up from head to toe?'"

"The implication was, 'What, Elle, you can't put her big, fat body on the magazine? Why? 'Cause she's just fat and gruesome? Why can't we look at her beautiful fat body?'"

Since the controversy arose, Elle magazine issued a statement to defend the cover.

"Mindy looks sexy, beautiful and chic. We think it is a striking and sophisticated cover and are thrilled to celebrate her in our Women in TV issue."

Meanwhile, Elle Korea is featuring another Asian celebrity, that of the K-pop world, that is.

G-Dragon of Big Bang is known for his fashion-forward looks and bold statements, and recently, a preview of his Elle Korea cover was released.

Hopefully controversy does not arise over the G-Dragon cover as it did with Mindy Kaling.
