Music Video Review: GOT7's "Girls Girls Girls"

On January 14, 2014 JYP Entertainment uploaded the first video of their newest boy group GOT7. Girl Girls Girls is the hit track from their first mini album, to be released on the 20th of this month. The group is composed of seven members namely: JB, 마크 (Mark), Jr.(주니어), 잭슨 (Jackson), 영재 (Youngjae), 뱀뱀 (BamBam), and 유겸 (Yugyeom).

Music Video: 7/10

For a rookie group, I'd say this first video ranks pretty high up in terms of debut videos out of the same company. It starts out with the boys going through their school life, lookin the like the boys that your mothers warned you about (but you totally want to hang out with becuase they have cool hair and scooters). Later, as the school period ends, the boys skate off to a secret location discovered by a young girl who was innocently passing by. Through finding a ring-like piece of jewelry in their wake, she follows the boys to their secret, underground club and watches as the members of GOT7 basically rule the whole dancefloor with their synchronized dancing, back flips, and rapping.

The music video had some clever moments here and there within the fine detail of editing. I especially enjoyed watching the split screen effect added in the beginning, and it becoming a consistent theme throughout the video. My only con is that with a group of seven, having the boys wear practically the same outfit makes it difficult to tell them apart, therefore keeping their identities within the group and not as individuals. Which, I guess makes sense since they are a group and they should be known as a group, but it doesn't hurt to develop favorites early on.

For the most part, the dance sequence was pretty smartly choreographed, the overall aesthetic was pleasing, and it was cute to see split screen shots of viewers dancing along with them on the side. It sends the message that the boys aren't doing overly complicated moves and that everyone can follow it.

Song: 7/10

Everyone loves a catchy chorus, and this song definitely has it. The beat in the opening will automatically have you bobbing your head. And it's just a fun song to play in your head when you're feeling particularly narcissistic or on a night out with your friends.

Overall: 7/10

Not bad for a debut release. Can't wait to see what else they have in stored.
