Man of Steel Sequel Release Date Delayed to 2016; Don’t Get Your Capes in a Bunch, Batman Vs. Superman Faceoff Gets Slowed Down; Ben Affleck Leg Injury to Blame?

Batman Vs. Superman Movie News: The "Man of Steel" sequel released date has been delayed to 2016. Ben Affleck won't be making his debut as Batman as soon as we thought. Could someone be working some mojo to delay the new Man of Steel sequel?

Rumors flew faster than a speeding bullet that the Man of Steel sequel was delayed because Ben Affleck, who's set to star as Batman, sustained a leg injury that was serious enough to delay the Batman Vs. Superman shoot by six weeks or more. A statement from Warner Bros. didn't help, as it neither confirmed nor denied the rumors.

The summer movie schedule for 2015 is a little less crowded. Warner Bros. pushed the Man of Steel sequel opening from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016. "Batman Vs. Superman" will now  battle it out at the box office against "X-Men: Apocalypse" which opens a few weeks later on May 27, 2016. Batman Vs. Superman will star Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.  Bryan Cranston is rumored to be the choice to play Lex Luthor. Jason Momoa and Joaquin Phoenix were also recently rumored to be added to the cast.

When Ben Affleck was first cast as Batman, fans went ballistic on social media all over the world to blast him. Twitter exploded.

Joss Whedon took to Twitter to say he had full faith in Affleck's abilities to take put on the cape and the ears. Whedon said "He's got the chops, he's got the chin - just needs the material. Affleck & Cavill toe to toe - I'm in."

Warner Bros confirmed that it pushed back the release date of the as yet untitled Man Of Steel sequel that will bring together superheroes Superman and Batman. The Man of Steel sequel was originally scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.

Batman Vs Superman was originally scheduled to begin production in February, but filming was delayed to the second quarter of 2014.Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin tale will now move into the July 17, 2015 slot, having previously been slotted for June 26, 2015. More, including the official press release from Warner Bros., after the jump Joe Wright's live-action Peter Pan film will take the July 2015 release slot vacated by Batman vs. Superman. At the Comic-Con convention in July, director Zack Snyder revealed that the DC Comics' caped crusaders will face off against each other the sequel to last year's hit Superman film Man of Steel.

Warner Bros. explained the delay gives "the filmmakers time to fully realize their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story."

Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said, "We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases. We share the fans' excitement to see DC Comics' most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016. Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today's moviegoers."

Kwan Vandenberg added, "We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next superhero film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever. The summer release corridor is also perfect for Joe Wright's ambitious new Peter Pan adventure, reimagining the ageless story of the beloved and forever-young hero for audiences worldwide."
