Actor Cha Seung Won Signs With YG Entertainment: CEO Yang Min Suk On His Company's Search For Synergy

South Korean actor Cha Seung Won is now part of the YG family.

Although word of the 43-year-old actor joining the record label and management company had been leaked back in September, in a statement released Monday, YG Entertainment executives announced that it was a done deal.

"Cha Seung Won has built a solid status and popularity as an actor, exerting his outstanding acting ability and manly appeal," the statement read.

"He decided to sign the contract with YG, as he thought he could create a bigger synergy as an actor with YG's brand power."

Actors Yim Ye Jin from the television series "Miss Korea" and Jang Hyun Sung from the film "Hwayi: A Monster Boy" also recently joined the YG talent roster that already includes K-pop superstar acts Psy, 2NE1 and Big Bang.

According to the record label's co-founder Yang Min Suk, the acquisition of so much new acting talent is all part of the company's quest for "synergy," a corporate buzz word for using individual parts to create a result greater than the sum of those parts.

"We believe that our new actors will improve our capabilities of actor management and direct production of broadcasting contents, which will create a synergy and strengthen our strategies for video production business," Yang said.

"We have been advancing video production business by carrying out a hologram business with KT and by acquiring shares of Redrover, a company that produced the Hollywood animation movie 'Nut Job' released on Jan. 17, and collaborating with the company for marketing."

The label ended the press release with an optimistic look into the future.

"YG will be able to build the foundation to evolve into a global entertainment company by the enhancement of its actor management business as well as other businesses, adding to its globally-recognized business of music production and musician management," the statement read.

Best known for his roles in the 2005 film "The Big Scene," the 2008 film "Eye for an Eye" the 2010's "Into the Fire," Cha won a 2011 MBC Drama Awards" for his performance in the role of Dokko Jin in the television drama "The Greatest Love."
