Katherine Heigl’s New Television Show Topbills NBC’s New Offering; Amy Poehler Gets Three-Year Deal With Universal Television

Katherine Heigl's new television show topbills NBC network's new offerings for this year, which features an action-thriller, a comedy and another musical.

The former "Grey's Anatomy" star is set to play an attaché for the Central Intelligence Agency who troubleshoots compromising situations and provides advice to the president involving incidents that can have repercussions to the U.S.

The briefer said that aside from her high-stakes responsibilities, Katherine Heigl's character in the new television show is also dealing with "a complicated personal life."

NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt earlier announced that Amy Poehler, who recently won the Golden Globes for her role as Leslie Knope of "Parks and Recreation," has inked a three-year deal with Universal Television.

Amy Poehler will produce a new comedy pilot "Old Soul" starring Natasha Lyonne, according to E!

"We look forward to working with Amy in developing new shows as she continues her role on Parks," Greenblatt said during the TCA Press Tour in Pasadena on Sunday.

During the same tour, Greenblatt revealed that they are planning to stage another musical after the success of "The Sound of Music."

In a report by E!, the musical regarding the boy who doesn't want to grow up is scheduled to air on December 4.

"We had so much doing a big musical that the family could watch over the holidays, so we're going to do it again," Greenblatt said.

While the cast is not yet complete, Greenblatt teased that he has one name in mind: "I want Miley Cyrus." One thing is for sure, however, there will be no Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Cher in the cast after he thumbed down the names as suggested by a reporter, said E!

Greenblatt said "The Sound of Music" reached almost 19 million viewers in addition to another three million who watched the show through DVR playback.

"In the hopes that lightning strikes twice, we think we've landed on another great Broadway musical - which ironically also starred Mary Martin-that is a timeless classic for all audiences, young and old, who just never want to grow up," Greenblatt said.
