Facebook Paper App Review: FB’s New Mobile News Reader Is So Good There Is Now A Battle For Name Ownership

Facebook has launched a new app for iPad devices called Paper. This application is the social network's new mobile news reader perceived by tech experts as the company's big push to deliver "the best personalized newspaper in the world."

According to a review by LA Times:

Paper doesn't just help users discover news on dozens of topics. It can also be used by users to browse their News Feed, get messages and notifications and search Facebook.

That has led some observers to speculate that - if popular with users - Paper could become the new face of Facebook on mobile devices, one day replacing the current Facebook app for smartphones and tablets.

The new application has become one of the biggest craze in the technology this week that many websites dedicated in reviewing new technologies called it already among the bests.

Tech blog Verge posted on Twitter "This just in: #Paper is the best Facebook app ever."

"I think the Facebook Paper app may have a bit more success than some of the other app failures that Facebook has had in the past mainly because news has been a central tenet of the Facebook interface for many years," said Brian Blau, an analyst from the Gartner Research.

Paper is a huge success and many expect it to become even bigger in the coming months or years. Because of this forecast, many names have floated claiming they were the first to own the word Paper for a similar app. FiftyThree, a company specializing in software designs connected to pencils and papers, said that they were surprised to know that Facebook decided to name their new app Paper despite knowing that "FiftyThree began with Paper." In its website, the company posted:

So it came as a surprise when we learned on January 30th with everyone else that Facebook was announcing an app with the same name-Paper. Not only were we confused but so were our customers (twitter) and press (1,2,3,4). Was this the same Paper? Nope. Had FiftyThree been acquired? Definitely not. Then, what's going on?

We reached out to Facebook about the confusion their app was creating, and they apologized for not contacting us sooner. But an earnest apology should come with a remedy.
