Brown Eyed Girls Gain Explains Psy Helped Make Her Internationally Recognizable

Brown Eyed Girls member Gain is easily one of the most recognizable stars in Korea, and these days her fame has reached international levels.

During her recent appearance on KBS 2TV's celebrity quiz show "1 Vs. 100", Gain mentioned that she is delighted by foreigners who often approach her.

"After appearing in Psy's 'Gentleman' music video, a lot of foreigners are now able to recognize me," she explained.

Gain, of course, played the saucy female lead in Psy's "Gentleman" follow up video "Gangnam Style" released last year. Not only does the music video show the sexy young star rivaling Psy's 'ungentlemanly' behavior, but also features a dance that was adapted from her group's 2009 hit "Abracadabra".

"The foreigners would recognize me and then do the 'arrogant dance'," she said. "I was really happy and felt great."

When casting the star who would appear alongside him in the "Gentleman" music video, Psy singled in on 26-year-old Gain stating that she had a very "Asian" appearance. Including her also paid necessary homage to the Brown Eyed Girls and their choreographers Yama & Hotchicks.

"I wanted to reinterpret a Korean dance and make it popular overseas," said Psy last April before unveiling "Gentleman" to the world at his concert in Seoul. "There are certain dance moves that are very unique to Korean dancers and I want to share them with the rest of the world."

"It was truly an honor to feature in Psy's 'Gentleman' music video. It's a dance I've done thousands of times so I felt comfortable, but it was so much fun to do it in the context of the video," revealed Gain in an interview last year.

Not only has Psy helped to popularize K-Pop dancing, but many of its stars who were once relatively unknown outside of South Korea, like Gain and his "Gangnam Style" co-star, 4Minute member HyunA.
