K-Pop Crossover: Britney Spears And Backstreet Boys Lead The List Of Top 5 Biggest Album Debuts [VIDEO]

This week is a big one for K-pop releases, with superstar groups Girls' Generation, 2NE1 and TVXQ all releasing albums.

2NE1's long-anticipated  "Crush," hit the top spot on a bunch of music charts in hours.

Girls' Generation's new EP "Mr. Mr." shot straight to No. 1 on 11 Korea' iTunes Albums charts and it doesn't look like it will be slowing down any time soon.

TVXQ threw down with their 7th album "Spellbound" just hours ago and it is already hitting making a splash.

But when it comes to album sales, it was the early 2000s in America when records were made to be broken. Britney Spears, Eminem, The Backstreet Boys and N Sync all rode in the new year with massive hits.

Here's a look at the 5 biggest opening weeks in the history of the recording industry.

Britney Spears, Oops!...I Did It Again

Britney Spears sold 1,319,000 when it came out on March 27, 2000. Britney's debut album, Baby One More Time, from the previous year went double platinum within a month, But Britney was riding the wave of controversy after posing for a Rolling Stone magazine cover. Combined with her North America and Europe tours and TV coverage Britney's sophomore album sold 1.3 million copies in its first week, It is still the highest one-week seller for a female artist.\

Backstreet Boys, Black & Blue

The Backstreet Boys moved 1,591,000 units on November 21, 2000. The "Black & Blue" broke international sales record, selling over five million copies worldwide in its first week. It was the first Backstreet Boys album where the band wrote most of the songs themselves. BSB was the first group in Soundscan history to sell over a million first-week copies with back-to-back albums.

Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP

Eminem just released his follow up to this blockbuster which sold 1,760,000 copies on May 23, 2000. Eminem was a star already after his "Slim Shady LP," mined controversy by mocking the teen idols like Christina Aguilera and 'N Sync. Eminem. The Marshall Mathers LP proved Eminem was a force to be reckoned with, changing the sound of Hip Hop forever.

N Sync, Celebrity

N Sync was in sync with the early 2000s, Celebrity sold 1,880,000 right oout of the box on July 24, 2001. IT was N Sync's third and final album before Justin Timberlake broke out on his own. "Celebrity" was certified five-times platinum.

N Sync, No Strings Attached

Just one year and four months earlier N Sync sold 2,416,000 copies when they released "No Strings Attached" on March 21, 2000. 'N Syncput out their first album in 1997 and the buzz built for three years before they finally released their second, No Strings Attached. Their record of selling 2.4 million copies in the first week has still never been broken.
