Girls’ Generation Vs 2NE1 - The Real Battle Begins With Their Performance

The music industry has its eyes on these two girl groups, to see which one will come out on top.

Girls' Generation undoubtedly has mass appeal. 2NE1 entered the game with a unique color to approach the masses. If we give scores based on the music charts alone, 2NE1 is the winner in the first round.

On February 27th 2NE1 released their 2nd full length album. They took an all kill across 9 different music charts. Even just the day before, Girls' Generation's songs were seen in those very same top ranks. It's obvious that Girls' Generation is at a major disadvantage, especially because they released their songs 3 days prior. However, 2NE1's title songs "Come Back Home," "Gotta Be You", and CL's self-composed song "Crush" are currently ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Some are saying that 2NE1 is the definite winner of the music chart war.

We can split these two girl groups' competition into unique color and mass appeal, or popularity. Girls' Generation's "Mr.Mr" has a powerful presence in popularity. On the other hand, 2NE1's "Come Back Home" has mass appeal, unique color, and expresses the girls' individualities very well.

One composer commented on "Mr.Mr," "It seems like they focused a lot on mass appeal. Their last song was of a rock and dance genre, but they've changed that to fit the changing trend that most Korean idols are pursuing. Even their sound source is very simple. They sang the song using a main synth bass. Since they've given the public what they want to hear, it'll be a simple hit." 2NE1's "Come Back Home" features 2NE1's signature electronic genre sound and lyrical melody. It appeals to the masses, and their flavor is so strong that you can immediately tell it's 2NE1's song just by listening to a few verses. Not only that, it's highly addictive.

However, this is just the first battle of the war. We're still awaiting the greatly anticipated stage performances. As leading icons in fashion and dance, these two girls will have to battle it out onstage as well. Girls' Generation's first broadcast has been set for March 6th via Mnet's "M Countdown." As a group that debuted in 2007, Girls' Generation stand out among other girl groups by their performances alone. The 9 members have an aura that is set apart from other groups. There's definitely a possibility that Girls' Generation will come out on top once they reveal their comeback performance.

2NE1 will reveal their first performance at their concert on March 1st and 2nd for their world tour 'All Or Nothing.' It will be a solo performance in front of their fans, and is highly anticipated to be a great one. Their broadcast activities will be determined after their concert.
