Two Group Members That Went Solo… And Succeeded

Originally group members, SISTAR's Soyou and former Wonder Girls' Sunmi have become extremely successful after going solo.

The March 2nd live broadcast of SBS "Inkigayo" featured Sunmi's "Full Moon" as the winner. While Soyou and JungGiGo's "Some" has been taking the winning trophy home here and there, Sunmi snatched a number 1 title with her song "Full Moon". Sunmi shed tears while holding the number 1 trophy. She said, "There have been many that were disappointed because I always got 2nd place. I want to thank all the fans and agency employees that struggled with me."

Six years after leaving the group, Sunmi debuted as a solo artist. In just 7 months into her solo activities, she wielded the number 1 trophy. Wonder Girls won the number 1 trophy in October of 2008 with "Nobody". That was Sunmi's last win before she finally left the group in February of 2010. Thereafter, she spent 3 years furthering her education and preparing for her solo debut. In August last year, she showed off her sexiness through her solo debut song "24 Hours". She presented another kind of sexiness yet again in "Full Moon" with another barefoot performance.

As it so happens, the group Sunmi left, Wonder Girls, has halted activities. A brake's been put on their schedules because of members' departures from the group. Sun left the group in January of last year to get married, and Sohee left the company when her contract expired in order to pursue acting.

Soyou has hit a home run in both her individual activities and group SISTAR's album activities as well. Soyou is a star vocalist in SISTAR, and each album has been topping music charts. Even throughout her group activities, Soyou took her first win in August of 2013 on MBC "Show! Music Core" with her collaborative song "Stupid in Love" featuring Mad Clown.

Soyou was able to show off her vocals, first with Mad Clown and then with Junggigo. The song was released on February 7th this year, and it's been keeping its spot at the top of music charts ever since. It temporarily yielded the spot to Girls' Generation's title song "Mr.Mr" and 2NE1's title song "Come Back Home", but not for more than 48 hours before "Some" took over once again.

Soyou's "Some" swept music program number 1 trophies across the board. It won on the February 19th broadcast of MBC Music "Show Champion", Mnet "M! Countdown" on the 20th, KBS2 "Music Bank" on the 21st, MBC "Show! Music Core" on the 22nd, SBS "Inkigayo" on the 23rd, "M! Countdown" on the 27th, "Music Bank" on the 28th, and "Show! Music Core" on March 1st. Soyou is currently tied for most trophies won in 2014 with B1A4, with their song "Lonely".
