2NE1 Domination - From Billboard to SBS ‘Inkigayo’

Girl group 2NE1 finally took the stage with their second album CRUSH.

Their first TV appearance for "CRUSH" was on SBS's "Inkigayo". It was a live performance, but that didn't phase 2NE1. They sang their title song "Come Back Home" and their album title "CRUSH".

They released their album on February 27th and released the physical album on March 7th. However, this "Inkigayo" appearance was their first appearance with "CRUSH" on TV. Their live performance was powerful.

It's been an extraordinary few weeks for 2NE1. What are their thoughts on the performance of their album CRUSH so far? We decided to hear their thoughts.

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about the album CRUSH is that it was the highest ranked Korean album on the Billboard 200. This wasn't the Billboard World Chart (where they placed #2) which leaves out other prominent American stars. They placed 61st on the Billboard 200 that accumulates all music records.

Asked about this feat, CL responded, "I can't believe it. We weren't thinking about 'Billboard' at all when we were producing the album, so it was a huge surprise. We had zero expectations of such things. It was a rush to find out, and I was emotional because this was an album that we really worked hard on."

That wasn't the only feat, of course. 2NE1's double title songs "Gotta Be You" and "Come Back Home" simultaneously took the top spots on all top online music charts. They also took top spots on multiple international iTunes charts.

On this, 2NE1 collectively responded, saying, "We took a lot of the top spots on the music charts, but we were actually very worried prior to the release. We didn't know if a whole album of our songs would be digested the same way a single dose of our music might be. When we found that multiple songs from our albums placed in the top 10 spots, we felt rewarded by our fans for our efforts."

One of the most interesting behind-the-scenes stories concerning their title song "Come Back Home" is that YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk helped choreograph the song. Once a legendary dancer and a member of the first Korean idol group Seo Taiji and the Boys, his contribution to the choreograph helped 2NE1 gain a lot of confidence on stage."

2NE1 responded, "Our CEO is so busy these days that he barely has time to do what he enjoys, which is helping YG artists with their choreography. However, he took time out of his busy schedule to help us. We were really satisfied with the resulting choreography. Thank you Mr. Yang!"

All this brings us back to the beginning of the article - "Inkigayo" was their first TV performance since "Missing You". 2NE1 seemed excited about performing in front of their fans, especially because they were revealing the performances for the first time to their fans who weren't at their 'AON: All Or Nothing' concert on March 1st and 2nd.

2NE1 responded, "We were nervous about performing in front of our fans, but it was also very fun. Our fans' support is always so great, it hyped us up for the performance. We had the jitters with it being our first TV performance with the new album and all, but it was also very exciting. We hope to carry the energy through our upcoming world tour."

When asked about taking the stage with another powerful female group in Girls' Generation, they responded, "It's fantastic. We are showing the fans of K-Pop the power of female groups."
