K-Pop Indie Spotlight: Neon Bunny Delivers A Hauntingly Beautiful Melody In 'It's You'

Looking for some K-Pop that is mellow and a bit outside the mainstream? Then look no further than Neon Bunny's latest single "It's You."

A hauntingly beautiful song that infuses electro back beats with soft, repetitive vocals, Neon Bunny's latest single is emotional and serene.

Neon Bunny (whose real name is Kim Yu Jin) first gained widespread attention when her debut album seoulight won the award for Best Pop Album in 2012. She now brings forth yet another great track with the help of longtime collaborator, producer Cliff Lin.

A polished and confident track, "It's You" is Neon Bunny's first solo release since her Happy Ending EP in mid-2012. The new single feels mature and evolved and is tagged by many critics as a revival for the talented star whose fans are eagerly waiting for a new album.

The popular video blog Eat Your Kimchi has raved about Neon Bunny ever since the release of her single "Oh My Prince" over a year ago, and again with the latest tune.

In an industry that tends to focus a lot on the glitz and glamour of pop music, it is at times refreshing to hear something not so contrived - something natural and pure.

K-Pop music lovers are definitely tuning in to K-Indie and Neon Bunny is among the best Korean indie stars to keep an eye on.

When she moved to Boston to study music more than a decade ago, Neon Bunny became heavily influenced by the underground band culture thriving in the States at the time.

After returning to South Korea, the western influence was a prime motivator for starting Doggyrich, her own music collective in Seoul. That seed of independence is crucial to keeping her music original and refreshing.

"We don't need a record company," she explained to UK magazine Dazed in late 2012. "This way we can just do our own thing." And do her own thing, she does.

Neon Bunny is managed by Seoulight and "It's You" was released on March 10 as a digital single distributed by Sony Music.
