'Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Not Happening? ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Starring Johnny Depp Not Yet Approved By Disney

"The Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" might not happen, at least anytime soon as the Johnny Depp starrer's film production wasn't yet approved by Disney.

A seemingly innocuous tweet by reporter Marc Graser revealed the explosive news by Disney CEO Robert Iger during a shareholders' conference on Portland, Oregon on March 19.

"Disney's Bob Iger says that the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film has not yet been given the greenlight," he tweeted.

The release date of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" has already been postpone from July 10, 2015 to the summer of 2016 partly because Disney reportedly didn't like the first draft of the script.

Fans of the series were optimistic by bits of nuggets being released to the media from the plot, the official title of the fifth instalment of the series as "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," to naming Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg as directors and the release date.

But Mack Rawden of Cinemablend.com wrote that Disney probably didn't think that bad press will have any impact on the film's showing, especially since the franchise already generated sales for Disney of over $3 billion.

"Pirates 5 will probably still happen at some point. I'm not sure I would bet anything on the film making a 2016 appearance, however," he wrote.

While Johnny Depp has publicly acknowledged that his return to "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" would largely depend on the script, The Wrap said the franchise made too much money for the actor to pass up.

In a 2011 report, The Wrap said that Johnny Depp-who is expected to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales"-earned between $280 million to $350 million from four Pirates movies.
