The biggest news from YG in April is the fact their singer/songwriter duo Akdong Musician (AkMu), the winner of "K-Pop Star 2" is debuting this week on the stage of "K-Pop Star 3". The biggest news of SM is that the highly anticipated comeback of the undisputed champion of K-Pop, EXO, is imminent. Superficially, it may appear as though the match is already decided in EXO's favor. However, AkMu is no slouch themselves - they were the top sellers on online charts last year even before their official debut. EXO vs. AkMu, then, is a battle of on-stage performance versus self-producing and a battle of physical album sales versus online album sales.

Let's first take a look at Akdong Musician. The winner of "K-Pop Star 2", they were differentiated themselves from the rest from the beginning of the tournament by writing their own songs and displaying amazing musical talent between the brother and sister combo. Their lyrics are fresh and unique, and their music is charming and pure. Their self-made songs like "A Foreigner's Confession", "Is It Ramen", and "You Are Attractive" were all immensely popular.

Their singles range from "Don't Cross Your Legs", which they performed for their first audition on K-Pop Star, to "Crescendo", which repeatedly took Akdong Musician's songs to the top of the online charts.

Every song that AkMu releases become instant hits on the online charts. That's the reason that the producers of the drama "All About My Romance" tapped AkMu before they signed with any record label to produce the main song "I Love You" for the drama. AkMu was nominated for the OST Award at 2013 MelOn Music Awards. Paris Baguette tapped them to sing and model for them for their shaved ice campaign for the summer of 2013. The song that they produced, "Bean Ice Flakes with Rice Cake", took the top of the charts.

This is one of the reason that their new album is so highly anticipated by music lovers everywhere. YG CEO Yang Hyun Suk stated, "It was the most difficult album to choose the title song from in my 16 years as a producer. Every song in the album is uniquely good, and I had a hard time choosing the one that had the most charm among a sea of charming songs."

AkMu chose "Melted" as their title song, and Yang Hyun Suk chose "200%" as his recommended title song. They are also planning to add a third title song by asking their fans to vote for the fans' favorite song. Will AkMu sweep the online charts yet again?

The short answer might be this: not if EXO is around. The team that swept all the major music awards last year, including 2013 MelOn Music Award, 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards, 2013 KBS Pop Celebration, the 28th Annual Golden Disc, the 23rd Annual Seoul K-Pop Awards, and the 11th Korean People's Choice Music Awards, EXO is now ready to comeback with a follow up to their "Growl" dominance.

EXO's strong point is (and always has been), their perfect good looks that are complemented by their perfect singing and dancing skills. The "beagle" line of Chen, Baekhyun, and Chanyeol are always fan favorites. EXO is planning on breaking down into two unit groups, EXO-K and EXO-M, after their comeback stage to take the Chinese and Korean market simultaneously.

Many people are wondering if they will continue their million-seller ways or suffer a decrease in their album sales. There's no reason to think otherwise, however, when considering the large international fanbase that EXO possesses.
