Ubuntu Phone Pricing Will Fall Within $200-400 Category, Mobile OS Can Run In A Desktop Operating System As Well

Ubuntu phone: Are you an Android for the past couple of years but recently you have been looking for a fresh take on your smartphone OS experience? If so, then you may want to check out Ubuntu's phone which would arrive some time this year.

According to a report by TechnoBuffalo, Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth said that its first Ubuntu OS-powered smartphone will be released later this year and would be available within the $200-400 price range.

While speaking in CeBIT 2014 technology conference in Germany, Shuttleworth said that in spite the relatively cheaper pricing, the Ubuntu smartphones would be included in the higher midrange category.

"We're going with the higher end because we want people who are looking for a very sharp, beautiful experience and because our ambition is to be selling the future PC, the future personal computing engine," Shuttleworth said in an interview with The Inquirer

So would the Ubuntu OS have in store for the mobile market that is mainly powered by Android, iOS and Windows Phone OS? In the report, Ubuntu smartphones would be able to run in a mobile device such as a smartphone and tablet just like its competitors.

However, it would also be able to plug into a monitor and run an entire desktop operating system using Ubuntu OS. This could be a first in the industry, and all three OS makers Google, Apple and Microsoft should shortly follow suit once this technology and feature goes live.

The Ubuntu phone has been in development for sometime now. Canonical tried to crowdfund it but its insane $32 million target was not feasible, especially if you are marketing an unannounced smarpthone that may not even live up to expectations.

We will keep you posted regarding updates, features and more rumors about Canonica's, Ubuntu powered smartphone.
