Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones' split is now a thing of the past as the couple graced the red carpet opening for "The Library" at The Public Theater in NYC. The "Behind the Candelabra" actor also visited with the UN reportedly as messenger of peace.

"The Library" is a play from Steven Soderbergh regarding the shooting of a school and the unintended consequences. It will also feature former child star, Chloë Moretz, who's now 17 years old.

Their appearance in last Tuesday's event came eight months after Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones' split rumors were confirmed.

According to E! News, their red carpet appearance marked the first time they attended an official event since announcing they were separating.

Of course, they were also together in accepting the award from Windward School in L.A. on professional capacity. However, the two were seen going around town with their two kids, Dylan, 13 and Carys, 10.

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones split a few months back and even sparked divorce rumors reportedly over his insensitive remarks in an interview following his successful battle with throat cancer.

Although the couple split up in August last year, there was no formal filing for divorce from both camps.

Over the past few weeks, however, the two have been spending a lot of time together, which only earned the approval of his 91-year-old mother.

"I knew they would work it out. They're both gentle people ... They've always been very affectionate and easy (with each other)," Diana Dill said.

Also on Tuesday, Michael Douglas was at the United Nations speaking to students while prefacing the new book "Action for Disarmament: 10 Things You Can Do!" which will also help teens and young adults understand the campaign for disarmament, MailOnline added.

The "Behind the Candelabra" star has been a "Messenger of Peace" since 1998.
