Goonies 2: Goonies Sequel In the Works for 2014; Corey Feldman Wants To See The Script First; Josh Brolin Isn't Holding His Breath

Goonies Sequel 2014: Rumors about "Goonies 2" have been circulating since the first movie came out and now those rumors are looking like they're coming true. Richard Donner, who directed the original Goonies, recently said he wants to get Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin and Jeff Cohen back together as Mikey, Brand, Chunk, Data and Mouth in a sequel to cult 80s movie The Goonies."

The 1985 film was written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus and was listed as one of the top box office hits of that year. 28 years ago, Goonies introduced young actors Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen and Martha Plimpton to the big screen. Each of these teenagers went on to long screen careers. The Goonies' sequel will find the stars of the first film, now with children of their own, reuniting 20 years later to solve a new mystery.

According to producer and director Richard Donner, the Goonies sequel should include the full original cast. Corey Feldman says Donner said the same thing a few months ago, "It can't be done without a perfect script! We all must be certain that it doesn't miss the magic of the original."

Corey Feldman took to Twitter to say "GOONIES 2:FACT OR FICTION? I hav been hounded incessantly since this "rumor" hit the press 24 hrs ago! Literally thousands of tweets n FB." Feldman also tweeted that he trusts Donner and will inform fans of any breaking news.

Corey Feldman, now 42, starred in such classic films as Stand By Me and The Lost Boys. The former child star lost his friend Corey Haim, as he battled his own drug abuse.  Feldman played Clark 'Mouth' Devereaux in "The Goonies" when he was 13. He went from up and coming star to reality TV celeb on a a show with the late Corey Haim.

Feldman says there will be no Goonies sequel. He wrote on his blog "There is no Goonies 2. I'm sorry but it's just not gonna happen. It seems every six months the rumor mill gets started up again and people run around both excited and angry, and eventually I have to respond."

Rumors about a Goonies sequel have been circulating for a while, but Richard Donner told TMZ the project is finally moving forward.

The Goonies was Sean Astin's first movie. Astin was 15 years old when he played Mickey Walsh in the Goonies. While he was promoting "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" last year, Sean Astin told IGN "It will happen. I'm 1000 percent certain there will be a sequel. I will bet my children on it."

Sean Astin recently said he's not going to let himself get too worked up about the possibility of a Goonies 2 movie. He said  "[Richard] said he wanted everybody to come back and if that's true I can't imagine, it wouldn't work out. They've wanted to do a sequel since the first one came out."

Astin continued, "It was huge hit movie when it came out, and it's sort of ready made for sequel style material. They just couldn't figure out the balance between us and the kids. If Dick [Donner] says the sequel is going forward, they must have found the magic ... I've always said I'm open for everything."If you're between the ages of 20 and 35, chances are you have some pretty strong feelings about Richard Donner's 1985 film "The Goonies."

When TMZ asked director Richard Donner if he would do another comic book movie after his 1986 cult classic, Donner said "If you call 'Goonies' a comic book. We're doing a sequel."

Donner was also the director of Superman and the Lethal Weapon. Steven Spielberg produced the movie that first hit theatres in 1985. The lives of Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen and Martha Plimpton have taken diverse paths since the 1985 movie. Donner hasn't directed a movie since 2006's 16 Blocks.
