MBC Reality Show 'Real Men' Head To The Philippines For First Foreign Broadcast

MBC "Real Men" will be heading to the Philippines.

On May 7, an official revealed that the "Real Men" team has left for the Philippines to join the Araw troops.

They will be staying with the Araw troops for 5 nights and 6 days and experience a different culture's military life.

The "Real Men" team have been discussing and debating since last year as to which foreign troop they would join. They finally came to the decision to go to the Philippines and have gained much attention for their first broadcast overseas.

Due to the Sewol ferry incident, they postponed their trip to mourn and grieve together. They have now revealed that they are back on schedule and will be airing the show again.

"Real Men" focuses on six celebrities experiencing military life, a premise that has gained interested due to South Korea's mandatory military service, according to The Diplomat.

Male viewers are able to relate to the members of the show as they experience military life while female viewers have a window into the different experiences while serving in the army.

23-year-old student So Seok-hun, a viewer of the show, stated, "The show reminds me of my own military experience. It's just fun to watch. Plus, since more female friends of mine watch this show, I feel more comfortable sharing my experience with them than before."

The only non-Korean member on the show is Australian comedian Sam Hammington, who currently lives in Korea.

Hammington told The Diplomat of his experience on the show, stating, "The show has so many dynamic characters. It's a team effort, a brotherhood of sorts and I hope that people remember that everything I do on the show is in a big part due to the other members being there for me."

The comedian continued, "Nearly every single Korean male goes to the army which means that everyone has some connection to the show. Women don't get much of a chance to experience the military and this is their chance to live it through us."

"Real Men" remains incredibly successful amongst Korean audiences and is expected to maintain high ratings in the future as well.
