K-Drama OST Roundup: Throwback Soundtracks From Past Fan Favorites

May 5 marked the explosive debut of the some of the most star studded dramas to hit Korean prime time since the conclusion of You Who Came From The Stars. Since the late February and early March comebacks of 2NE1, Girls' Generation, and CNBLUE the original soundtrack has dropped in popularity largely due to the lack of strong theme songs and tracks. However, as Jaejoong, Lee Seung Gi, and Lee Jong Suk return to Korean television, the likelihood of compelling soundtracks is very high. These K-Drama soundtracks stirred the hearts of viewers and are relevant to some of the hottest new dramas.

Jaejoong made his K-Drama return this week in the action-packed program Triangle. Jaejoong displays a less inhibited side than fans have grown accustomed to, as he wittingly portrays the crime boss Jang Dong Chul. The role is a complete departure from the uptight CEO Cha Mu Won from the 2011 drama Protect The Boss. Jaejoong contributed to the original soundtrack for Protect The Boss with the tender song I'll Protect You.

Jin Hyeok ,the producer of the hit dramas City Hunter and Master's Sun, has joined forces with Kingdom of the Wind writer Park Jin Woo for Doctor Stranger. Doctor Stranger stars Lee Jong Suk, Jin Se Yeon, Park Hae Jin, and Kang Sora, in a gripping drama which fuses melodrama and action with a complex medical story line. Bora of SISTAR is included in the cast of strong actors, in the supporting role of Lee Chang Yi. Doctor Stranger is one of the most intricate and cinematic stories to hit Korean television in months, which will undoubtedly yield an excellent soundtrack. From the past projects of Jin Hyeok, Jonghyun of SHINee sings So Goodbye for the City Hunter soundtrack, while Hyorin of SISTAR lends her infectious voice to Crazy of You for the Master's Sun soundtrack.

SHINee Jonghyun sings 'So Goodbye' from the 'City Hunter' soundtrack.

The hit 'Crazy Of You' from SISTAR's Hyorin has made the 'Master's Sun' soundtrack a fan favorite.

Jong Yup of Brown Eyed Soul appeared on the 'I Hear You Voice' soundtrack with 'Why Did You Come Now'

Lee Seung Gi and action star Cha Seung Won are at the helm of the police action-comedy You're All Surrounded which debuted on May 7. You're All Surrounded breaks up the current influx of prime time action dramas by incorporating elements of comic book-inspired slapstick which is more like Brooklyn Nine Nine than Law & Order. The drama serves as Lee Seung Gi's return to K-Drama since the 2013 historical hit Gu Family Book. Lee Seung Gi contributed to the Gu Family Book soundtrack with Last Word.

May has already proven to be an excellent month for fans of Korean drama. Korean television continues to heat up, as the vibrant cherry blossoms have made way for Spring romance. Jaejoong and Lee Jong Suk will face off for dominance in the Monday-Tuesday prime time slot, while You're All Surrounded may achieve an easy victory for ratings amongst the Wednesday-Thursday dramas.
