K-Pop Mixtape Workout Edition: 'Run' To EXO & Cool Down To '200%' With Akdong Musician

It is final exam time on many high school and college campuses in America. One great way to combat the stress of cramming for tests and writing lengthy reports is to exercise. On-going medical studies have reflected that students who exercise not only have healthier bodies, but may also have improved brain function. For those of us who are past our college days and within the workplace, creating time for exercise is just as challenging. Thankfully, songs like “Overdose” and “Run” from EXO or the infectious “200%” from Akdong Musician can help to stimulate the most lethargic bodies.

Warm-Up Songs

Junggigo has released the smooth R&B song “Want U”, which features the slick rap flow of Beenzino. The tempo of “Want U” is excellent for a warm up or stretching routine. Prior to running or cardio activity, dedicate at least ten minutes to warming up. Stretching both before and after strenuous exercise helps to prevent injuries.

This remix “MTBD” from 2NE1 is a mid-tempo dance track which aids in the transition from warming up.

Running Music

“Run” from EXO's “Overdose” is unique from their trademark sound, with the track resembling a song that one would normally hear from FTISLAND or CNBLUE. “Run” is a funky pop rock song that is great to listen to while jogging in nature and on a treadmill. If jogging is not part of your regular exercise routine, try jumping rope or keeping time to the songs by dancing at a faster pace.

A drum and bass remix of Skrillex “Dirty Vibe” featuring G-Dragon and CL is perfect for picking the pace from medium jog to a sprint.

An electro-rock remix of Crayon Pop “Bar Bar Bar” in case seeing the adorable segment on “The Ellen Show” reignited your desire to learn the “Bar Bar Bar” choreography.

The Cool Down

Returning your heart rate back to its resting rate and stretching following jogging are key components of a structured workout. Ensure that enough time is allowed between the beginning of an exercise routine to the end, to complete both the warm up and cool down.

The sexiness of EXO's “Thunder” is a wonderful reward for completing a cardio workout. “Thunder” and “Love Love Love” are great reminders that even though exercise leads to sweating, a beautiful body can be the reward.

No workout play list is complete without the newest addition to YG Family, Akdong Musician. “200%” is so delightfully quirky, it helps to bring your mind back into focus, so that you can return to studying or work.
