World K-Pop Highlight: EXO's Emergence in the International Music Scene

It was not so long ago when SM Entertainment's male idol group, EXO, had made their debut and it seems that they have been taking the world by storm. It was on April of 2012 when EXO released their debut single MAMA which have topped China's music chart within only one day of release. The single also reached the 7th spot on the YouTube Global Charts.

While the boys' studio album XOXO, which was released on 2013, was the first record breaking album in sales after 12 years, reaching over a million by the end of the year. The lead tracks of the album, "Wolf" and "Growl" have reached the top spot in various music sites and shows, and getting 3rd place in Billboard's Korea K-pop Hot 100. They also have received over 40 awards ever since they have debuted.

Just recently, EXO has made their comeback with their second mini album Overdose. Though the release was pushed to a later date, to give empathy to the tragic event that happened in Korea, the boys' popularity did not falter and even had more than 650,000 in pre-orders.

On May 7, the day of the album's release, EXO achieve an 'all-kill' status, topping 9 music charts. They also have topped the iTunes Chart in Asia, which includes Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Brunei and more. EXO-K's music video of Overdose reached a whooping one million views just within hours after the release.

To top that, EXO's first showcase in Seoul sold out like hot potatoes, having the boys add one more date to accommodate their Korean fans' wishes and requests. They also will be having a showcase in China, which will cater their supportive fans in the country.

EXO has proved to be the rising stars of K-pop, achieving all of their fame and popularity within just two years of debut. In fact, top US chart, 'The Billboard' recently wrote an article on the boys, stating their astounding momentum with the release of the Overdose album. This article evidently shows how EXO has been emerging not only the Korean music scene but also the international music industry as well.

The boys have been showing continuous growth and has been as well the key of the rapid and immense spread of K-pop overseas, making the genre known by different races and cultures of the world.
