Review: Robyn Adele Anderson Explores Sexual Innuendos In The Lyrics Of Sunmi's Hit Single 'Full Moon' [VIDEO]

After watching the music video for Sunmi's "Full Moon" featuring Lena, I looked up the English translation of the lyrics the song, which was released back in February, and I was a bit suprised at what I found.

I must admit that I enjoy that the lyrics have a sexier and darker tone than many of the other K-pop songs that I've heard, which is apparent in the music video as well.

The lyrics of "Full Moon" are far from explicit, but there are a few lines that I found to be quite suggestive. I'm going to take a stab at interpreting them; not because I have the ability to analyze and understand the deeper poetic meaning behind lyrics, but because I tend to have a dirty mind.

While the lines "everything around us so so real yo," and "tonight's the night," implied some kind of romantic, sexual endeavor, the line "perfect weather, can't get no better," threw me for a loop and prompted further investigation.

The former Wonder Girl's chart-topping single seems to be about making love under, or perhaps, on the moon, possibly for the first time.

"The tightly shut door is open, the dream I've had for a long time," is one provokative line from "Full Moon."

At first I thought "the tightly shut door is open" was some oxymoronic metaphor too cryptic for me to comprehend or just a poor translation. Then I assumed it to literally mean that the bedroom door is open.

But then I took it a step further and realized that maybe it is in fact a metaphor referring to the anatomical nature of virginity and its undoing; something that many girls (perhaps late bloomers) do in fact dream about and look forward to throughout their formative years.

The rest of the lyrics are nonsensical and contradictory, from saying "before the sun comes up hurry" but at the same time "don't rush...the night is long" and "walking on the moon...as our clothes get drenched in rain" even though it doesn't rain on the moon.

The music video even seems to revolve around the juxtaposition between innocence and sexuality, virginity and consummation, even human and monster; all transformations can be attributed to the bewitching effects of a full moon.

Sunmi plays the part of a young, virginal girl in white, while featured rapper Lena dons black lingerie and a devilish persona.

Both girls seem to have supernatural abilities and Sunmi's character is (surprise!) not as innocent as she looks, as she sinks her teeth into a boy's neck and gleefully witnesses his transformation. Her other alter-ego character is also dressed in white but is more mature, revealing more skin and blood red lips.

Some movements in the choreography in "Full Moon" came across as slightly awkward while others were overtly sexual, which could have very well been on purpose.

Sunmi seems to be acting out the polarizing emotions that are an inevitable part of one's early sexual encounters. I must say those Beyonce-esque hip gyrations, were on point.
