When 18-year-old California-born Korean-American singer-songwriter Megan Lee's debut single "8Dayz" was released on May 15, I was very pleased with what I heard.

Lee is no stranger to the international entertainment scene, her YouTube channel, predominately comprised of covers of songs by K-pop artists like 2NE1 and BIGBANG and American pop stars like Taylor Swift, has received over 27 million views.

The singer's Internet celebrity led to appearances on Disney, Nickelodeon and the South Korean reality singing competition "MBC Star Audition: The Great Birth."

But Lee is also a talented lyricist, having written the words to all of her own music. On "8dayz" the singer-songwriter demonstrates her formidable lyrical ability, with reflections on love and new beginnings.

"If I had just one wish, I would have just one more day with you," is the song's opening line.

"There are seven days in a whole week, but if I had an eighth day..."

These are not words of heartbreak, angst or anything else that might be found in a typical love song. It seems more like an appreciation of the time spent with that special someone. And how that time can seem fleeting, especially when it's with someone you really care about.

"Flowers drinking from a rainbow, blueberry kisses, they float with the breeze," the "8dayz" lyrics continue.

These lyrics are whimsical, cheerful and make little sense. But I don't care. That seems to be the whole point; don't take life so seriously and take things as they come.

"It's a new day, it's a new life," is the song's hook.

That's the line that ties the song together and made me connect to it's meaning; even though there isn't that eighth day in a week to be with your favorite person, there is always a new morning to look forward to. Time is relative, right?

A person can make the best of any situation, within the time they are given. And even if a day doesn't end so well, there is always fresh start that waits for you the following morning.
