5 K-Pop Idols Who Announce Themselves In Songs: EXO, JYP, Ravi, 2NE1, SHINee

Fans laugh about it, but sometimes it gets annoying when idols introduce themselves in songs that they’re either singing in or have produced. Who are some of the biggest offenders in K-Pop?

JYP

There’s no way denying it. It was a running joke for a long time that not a single song coming out of JYP Entertainment could be free of the whispered name of the company’s founder, Park Jin Young (known simply by his initials JYP).

Fans even created a compilation of the so-called JYP Whisper that appeared on songs by 2PM, The Wonder Girls, Rain, miss A, and, of course, JYP himself.

VIXX’s Ravi

Another transgressor is the rapper of idol group VIXX, Ravi. In just about every title song that Ravi has rapped in, he has announced himself by saying his name. Although it’s becoming less noticeable and many fans may have missed it before Ravi’s rap in the group’s latest song, “Eternity,” Ravi is still proclaiming his presence in songs.

EXO

The group has named “XOXO” and a song with the same title, so it’s no surprise that SM Entertainment’s boy group has said its name in several songs. The group also spelled out “E-X-O” in their extremely successful song, “Growl,” as well as its most recent song, “Overdose.”

2NE1

Since their debut with “Fire,” the girls of 2NE1 have been proclaiming their name in their songs. They’re not as prevalent in their use as Ravi and JYP, but the group also introduced itself in “Try To Copy Me.” Most recently, in “Crush,” the group also introduced member Minzy by spelling out her name.

SHINee

SHINee is back. At least, that’s what the group says in their song “Dream Girl.” The group had begun introducing itself at the start of its songs with “Sherlock” back in 2012. SHINee doesn’t do it as much as some people, but it is noticeable.
