K-Pop Rewind: FIN.K.L 'Forever Love'

FIN.K.L debuted in 1998 as a challenger to the powerhouse SM Entertainment group, S.E.S. FIN.K.L was a four member girl group formed under DSP Media whose name represented the awkward English translation Fin Killing Liberty.

FIN.K.L approached Korean pop from a R&B influenced perspective, which was innovative in 1998.
While S.E.S released bubblegum pop tracks that was consistent with nineties K-Pop, FIN.K.L capitalized on the powerful range of lead vocalist Ock Joo Hyun.

“Forever Love” was the first single from 1999 album “White.” “White” was the second album to be released from FIN.K.L which reflected a concerted effort by the group to transition from ballads to a more diversified style.

The album sold more an 700,000 physical copies and was another commercial success for FIN.K.L.

“Forever Love” is a track that is widely covered by Korean female vocalists due to its timeless sound.

FIN.K.L continued to release music until 2005. The group went on hiatus following the abysmal sales of their final digital single “Fine Killing Liberty.”

The members of FIN.K.L went on to pursue solo efforts which led to the successful solo career of Lee Hyori.

Lead singer Ock Joo Hyun experienced a successful solo vocal career, as well.

FIN.K.L member Sung Yuri received critical acclaim as an actress, after starring in dramas such as “The Snow Queen.” Fellow member Lee Jin also positively pursued an acting career.
