Android Apps Free Download: Try Out Jolla Launcher When It Gets Released In The Play Store Next Week

The Jolla smartphone is a promising device, especially for those who loved the MeeGo platform in Nokia's one and only phone that ran it - the N9. Now that it is among the Android apps free to download beginning next week, Android users would be able to try it out without having to buy the new Jolla smartphone.

According to a report by GSM Arena, beginning next week, interested Android users can give Sailfish OS a try, but they should be able to meet the requirements. And no, they do not need to pay for anything.

First up, the user should have a smartphone that is running at least Android 4.3 Jelly Bean so that it would be able to support the Jolla platform. If your phone is running Android 4.4 Kit Kat, the better. In the report, the Nexus 4 and 5 are the ideal candidates for this.

Second, interested Android users should email Jolla at jolla-launcher@jolla.com straight from your Google account. Some of the details you need to provide Jolla include your name and the model of the Android device you are currently using. You will just have to wait for the confirmation or approval of Jolla, and they will send you a Play Store download link in order to try it out.

Finally, there is but one very important condition before getting any of this new Sailfish OS experience straight from your Android phone - you should be able to provide feedback to Jolla what you think about Sailfish OS' features, which is one way Jolla can improve its mobile platform, and hopefully upcoming Jolla devices as well.

Last year, the Finnish manufacturer unleashed its very first Jolla phone which runs the Sailfish OS based on the MeeGo platform which was last used by Nokia back in 2010.

It did show a lot of promise back then, but even before the N9 was released, Nokia has already closed a deal with Microsoft that it will be offering Windows Phone powered smartphones in the coming years. Nokia struggled with WP OS, but slowly it has been putting up big numbers in terms of sales.

It's nice to see a newcomer do something to make a name for itself.
