Album Review: GOT7 Back Up The Hype With 'Got Love' [AUDIO]

JYP Entertainment rookie group GOT7 released their second EP, entitled “Got Love,” on Monday.

GOT7 debuted back in January, with their album “Got It?” which was well received by both fans and critics alike.

Since then, the group has accumulated over 1.5 million followers on Facebook, firmly attesting to their popularity as one of the hottest new male groups in K-pop.

“Got Love” contains eight tracks, with three tracks that are remixes of “A.” One of the funkiest and most soulful songs from “Got Love” is the hip hop and R&B track “U Got Me.” “U Got Me” lends itself to the esthetic of GOT7 which is a very Korean take on American urban music and dance.

“U Got Me” helps to establish the over all sound scape of “Got Love” and is a very appropriate opening track.

One of the contributing factors to the popularity of GOT7 is that the musical essence of the group harkens back to the early days of JYP Entertainment, when Park Jin Young sought to deliver R&B into the future through his uniquely Asian perspective.

In the way that “U Got Me” helps listeners gain a sense of the musical direction for “Got Love,” the leading promotional track “A” delivers a well-crafted summertime track. “A” evokes images of the carefree spirit of youthfulness that embodies GOT7. It is not without surprise that “Got Love” contains a track entitled “Forever Young.”

“Bad Behavior” serves as the third track on the album and is undoubtedly the most hip hop infused song. With a varying tempo, vocal samples, and lyrics which inspire movement “Bad Behavior” is one of the standout tracks on the album.

The fourth track on the album is “Good Tonight.” “Good Tonight” incorporates slow tempo Bhangra instrumentals along with strong vocals.

“Forever Young” encapsulates quintessential boy band harmonization with aural innocence. GOT7 touches upon the nostalgic sentimentality that drives pop music fans of all ages, by conveying the innocence of youth with “Forever Young.”

There are three remixes of “A” on “Got Love”. Each remix is representative of a completely different musical genre. The FRANTS remix of “A” combines electronic dance music with aspects of electro-clash.

The TOYO remix of “A” is one of the most unique interpretations of the song. The TOYO remix slows down the tempo of the track, while highlighting the vocals. It can easily be described as the sexiest version of the three remixes.

Finally, there is the collapsedone remix of “A”. The collapsedone remix incorporates acoustic instrumentals to reflect a more organic sound.
