Album Review: K. Will Captures The Essence Of K-Pop Ballads With 'One Fine Day' [AUDIO]

Starship Entertainment solo vocalist K.Will has released his fourth extended play album, One Fine Day.

One Fine Day was digitally released on June 26, with the album placing in the number one spot on nine digital distribution sites in Korea. The album will release physically on June 30.

K.Will has built his career on soulful ballads and stirring love songs, which is clearly reflected in the six tracks that are included on One Fine Day.

K.Will is not considered an idol in the traditional sense of the word, but he has one of most cultivated vocal ranges than can be found in K-Pop.

One of the most unique aspects of K.Will is that he has mastered the art of crafting songs that sound like they are being directed at individual listeners, as opposed to an overall audience.

While he is a very soulful vocalist, K.Will has mastered the art of creating entrancing vocals which generally avoid overtly lewd or sexual connotations. This distinction has enabled him to reach a wide audience demographic.

The album opens with the track “So Pretty”. “So Pretty” is a song that varies in tempo, making it one of the most upbeat tracks on “One Fine Day”.  “So Pretty” is segues into “Day 1”.

“Day 1” invokes the feeling that K.Will is privately singing to the listener. “Day 1” is the leading track from One Fine Day, with a music video that stars “Roommates” member and actor Park Min Woo.

“Sweet Girl” features a rap interlude by EXID member LE. “Sweet Girl” is one of the standout songs from One Fine Day which exemplifies the vocal style of K.Will.

The fourth track on the album is the ballad “A Bright Day”. “A Bright Day” showcases the complete vocal range of K.Will, providing perspective for new listeners into the extent of his talent.

One of the most soulful R&B tracks on “One Fine Day” is the jazzy song “Love Love Love”.  It is one of the catchiest tracks on the extended play album and definitely worth a second listen or more.

“Last Digit” completes the mini album. “Last Digit” captures a sense of true emotionality which remains devoid of many of the songs on “One Fine Day”.  K.Will has contributed to original soundtracks included “The Greatest Love” and “The King 2 Hearts”, which is reflected in a song like “Last Digit”.
