Shia LaBeouf was arrested for disorderly behavior as he reportedly lit up a cigarette while watching Michelle Williams' "Cabaret" at the Broadway theater in New York on June 26.

Although media outlets reported that it was cigarette he lit up, Twitter user Michelle Kenney wrote: "@NewYorkTheater my friend was in the audience. He was allegedly smoking a joint and then fell out of his chair."

This was echoed by David Lawson who tweeted: "Shia LaBeouf smoking a J at Cabaret!"

According to CBS New York, Shia Labeouf was "escorted out" of Studio 54 in handcuffs for disrupting the show and yelling at the actors on the stage.

The website quoted witness Tina Marie Miller as saying that she didn't think that the "Transformers" actor was drunk or high on drugs.

"I was thinking he was working on a role, because it was that extreme. If we didn't know who he was, we'd assume he was a bum, literally, from how he looked and how he was acting," she said about the news that Shia Lebouf was arrested.

Another witness told WABC that Shia LaBeouf "was brilliant."

"I thought he was working on a role or something," the witness said.

According to CNN, when the actor was led away from the Broadway theater, Shia LaBeouf was said to have shouted: "F-k you! This is f---ing bull---! Do you know my life? Do you know who the f--- I am? Do you know who I am?"

Prosecutors also claimed that Shia LaBeouf "spat in the direction of the officer and cursed him."

The "tired-looking" Shia LaBeouf didn't talk to reporters when he stepped out of the Manhattan courtroom after he was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and harassment, CNN added.

During the hearing, the prosecutor wanted the actor in jail without bail but the defense successfully countered that after Shia LaBeouf was arrested, the media buzz to be generated if he fails to appear on his July 24 court appearance would be damaging to his career. The judge ordered his release.
