Tracy Morgan's accident update point toward the overlooked Truck Driver Fatigue law as the "30 Rock" actor and comedian received heartwarming support from friends, co-workers and FX cable network company.

According to Eric T. Chaffin, who wrote at West Virginia Legal Examiner, New Jersey has the Maggie's Law in 2003 which mandated that drivers would face a homicide charge if they are involved in an accident and found to have not slept for at least 24 hours.

"Experts say that sleep deprivation can have the same impact as alcohol on a driver," he wrote.

After the Tracy Morgan accident, advocates again bring attention to the 2013 legislation that truck drivers should not be allowed on the road more than 70 hours in a week, as well as driving 11 hours straight. Prior to that law, truck drivers were allowed to drive 82 hours in seven days

However, Chaffin stated that Senator Susan Collins moved to suspend that law, "including the rule prohibiting drivers from being on the 'road between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. while they are in the mandated rest period.' It also pushes the work week back to 82 hours."

The Guardian Liberty Voice reported Tracy Morgan accident update as it said that the comedian was already released from the hospital amidst the outpouring of support from his friends, colleagues and the network.

"FX is standing behind the comedian, stating that his untitled show 'will be waiting' for the actor when he has made a full recovery and is ready to go back to work," the website reported.

The Liberty Voice also cited a 1996 Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration study of 80 commercial truckers which stated that they only averaged five hours of sleep a night, which brings attention to the dangers of drowsy driving.

The driver involved in the "30 Rock" actor Tracy Morgan accident reportedly did not sleep for the past 24 hours prior to the collision.
