‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’ Ending: Top 5 Heartbreaking Scenes From The Korean Film Which Made History [PHOTOS]

Despite its modest budget of $3.2 million, 'Miracle in Cell No. 7' was able to make a history for being the 8th Korean film to surpass 10 million viewers. It has been 13 years since the country produced a movie which exceeded such mark.

The movie, which was first released in January 2013, continuously draw in viewers worldwide. 'Miracle in Cell No. 7' tells the story of kind middle-aged man named Yong-gu whose intellect is that of a 6-year-old. He gets imprisoned for raping and murdering a girl - something which he did not commit. His cellmates, some of the country's most notorious criminals, eventually learn of his innocence. In an attempt to cheer him up, they try to smuggle Yong-gu's daughter, Ye-Sung.

Apart from the 'Miracle in Cell No. 7' ending, here are some of the heartbreaking scenes from the film:

1. When Yong-gu pleaded the store not to sell the last Sailor Moon bag.

Every day, the father and daughter visit a particular store to check the Sailor Moon bag which Ye-Sung really wants but couldn't afford since Yong-gu's wage as a parking attendant isn't enough.When the last Sailor Moon bag has been purchased, Yong-gu entered the shop and pleaded the clerk to take it back. Yong-Gu ended up getting physically assaulted.


2. When Ye-Sung asked the Chief Warden to arrest her too so that she could be with her father.

When Ye-Sung was taken away from her imprisoned father, she was hospitalized. When the Chief Warden visited her, she asked him to arrest her too.

3. When the prisoners worked together to create a parachute for Yong-gu and Ye-Sung which would serve as their escape vehicle.

Realizing that Yong-gu's case is hopeless, his cellmates devised an escape plan. While it did not work out because of a minor detail, Yong-gu and Ye-Sung were able to cherish the moment.

4. When Ye-Sung and Yong-gu realize that death is about to separate them.

While the Chief Warden and Yong-gu's cellmates trained him prior to his final hearing, Yong-gu did not deliver the speech which would clear his name. Since he was threatened by the victim's father, Yong-gu opted to accept the death sentence in order to protect Ye-Sung.

5. When the grown-up Ye-Sung, who's already a lawyer, reopened the case and cleared his father's name.

Years after Yong-gu's death, the grown-up Ye-Sung re-opened the case and after an emotional court battle, she was finally able to prove her father's innocence.
