K-Pop Roundup: Who & What Dominated Headlines In June 2014

June was a month filled with male comebacks and tons of news surrounding EXO.

June 2014 ushered in the return of major male artists such as BEAST, Taeyang, U-KISS, and ZE:A. Big Bang's Taeyang led the park with chart topping release "RISE." However, girl groups have not taken the influx of male comebacks with stride.

FNC Entertainment's AOA released the delightful summer album “Short Hair,” while SM Entertainment's f(x) prepared for their comeback with a series of fashion-forward photo teasers.

During the month of June, Korean entertainment news became overrun with some of the most bizarre rumors to hit K-Pop in quite sometime. Thankfully, YG Entertainment's Yang Hyun Suk shed light on a strange story which was unnearthed from four years ago, which implied that 2NE1's Park Bom was supposedly a drug smuggler.

These headlines surrounding Park Bom were a far departure from the fanciful news that many fans have been following surrounding her performance on “Roommates.”

“Roommates” continues to generate buzz, with international fans showing the strongest support. After Park Bom displayed an affectionate spirit toward EXO's Chanyeol, 2NEXO fans rejoiced.

Viewers continue to question whether Park Bom is more interested in “Hotel King” actor Lee Dong Wook or in “Flower Boy Investigation Team” actor Park Min Woo. Park Bom even expressed surprise in the month of June at fans who believe that she is actually in a relationship with Lee Dong Wook.

One of the most unfortunate stories in June was news surrounding the idol relationship between Girls' Generation member Taeyeon and EXO's Baekhyun.

While Taeyeon was not the first member of Girls' Generation whose relationship was revealed, many fans of both SNSD and EXO did not react well to news that she was dating Baekhyun.

News of the relationship quickly dissolved into a scandal as fans of both artists criticized what were considered to be mocking posts, in which the two idols addressed each other in cutesy ways, that were posted in the past on SNS.

While most members of EXO have remained silent in regards to the alleged impending lawsuit of Kris against SM Entertainment, Lay and Tao utilized their own unique approaches to respond to fans.

Beyond EXO and Girls' Generation's Taeyeon, June 2014 delivered fantastic music for K-Pop fans, as numerous live tours began to roll out.

Fans of Hallyu in the United States prepared themselves for ticket sales for KCON 2014, after the month of June ended with an announcement from organizers that Big Bang's leader G-Dragon would be making a highly anticipated return to the convention.

June also marked the return of two acting idols who gained wide popularity while starring in “Reply 1997.” While K-Drama fans were enthusiastic to learn that actors from the beloved drama made their return to the small screen, there was a lukewarm response in regards to news that there was an American adaptation of the "Reply" series in the works at the Fox network.

“Reply 1997” star Seo In Guk made a return to Korean drama with his dual roles as high-schooler who becomes an executive in “High School King Of Manners,” which is also known as “High School King of Savvy.”

A Pink member Jung Eun Ji who starred opposite Seo In Guk in “Reply 1997,” made her return to K-Drama in the musical program “Trot Lovers.”

Jung Eun Ji received numerous accolades following her performance in “Reply 1997” and “Trot Lovers” appears to fall in line with her personalit, as well as talent. Since her return to K-Drama, Jung Eun Ji has drawn comparisons to leading female acting idols such as MissA's Suzy and Girls' Generation member YoonA.
