K-Pop News Weekly Top 3: Park Bom's Drug Scandal, f(x)'s Bible Burning, JYJ's Incheon Asian Games Snub

Park Bom's Drug Scandal

In a weird turn of events, news headlines were filled with accusations of 2NE1's vocalist Park Bom smuggling drugs into South Korea. However, the news was several years old, leading to many questions not just about whether or not Park Bom actually attempted to smuggle drugs into Korea, but rather about why she wasn't prosecuted through the normal legal channels. Questions came up about corruption in the Seoul legal system, favoritism because of her celebrity status, and even whether the news story was merely created to distract Koraens from the Sewol Ferry trial going on this week.

YG Entertainment published an explanation about the incident, saying that it was all a mistake on Park Bom's part. But another report, claiming that Park Bom had seemed to know what she was doing wrong, challenged YG's claims, making fans doubt the sincerity of the company.

JYJ And The 2014 Incheon Asian Games

JYJ became the official ambassadors of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games awhile ago, and many fans were happy to see that the trio has been able to gain a foothold in the industry that they nearly were barred from. However, with this week's press event about the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the upcoming Games, JYJ and its company expressed confusion and anger over the fact that, for some reason, JYJ wasn't included in the press event, and weren't included in the celebrity lineup that was announced for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

JYJ's company, c-Jes, accused the organizers of the Incheon Asian Games of succumbing to pressure from SM Entertainment, JYJ's former company. The organizers denied this, but many fans are protesting and posting comments all over the 2014 Incheon Asian Games' official Facebook page, accusing it of favoring SM in order to attract performers like Super Junior and EXO.

f(x) Accused Of Bible Burning

SM Entertainment's girl group made a comeback this week with "Red Light. Even though the comeback was well-recieved, and the music video was viewed over 1 million times in 24 hours, it was the fact that there was a book burning in the music video that made people upset. Apparently, fans started to think that f(x) was burning a bible.

Other fans defended f(x), saying that the book was actually a phone book, based on the fact that a phone was ringing at the start of the music video.

Fans also accused f(x) of mimicking 2NE1 and YG Entertainment's style.
