'Snowpiercer' Director Bong Joon Ho Raids Criterion Collection's Film Closet [VIDEO]

Red hot South Korean director Bong Joon Ho, stopped by the New York City headquarters of The Criterion Collection recently and shared his thoughts on film as he grabbed an armful of Blu-rays from the revered film reissue company's closet.

A top choice among film aficionados for its diverse array of top notch international selections, a Criterion Collection film crew recorded the "Snowpiercer director's encounter in a video clip posted on the company's Facebook page on Tuesday.

"I can't believe I'm actually here," Bong said.

The first film the director picked up was the 1979 Roman Polanski film "Tess," starring Nastassja Kinski.

"In Korea, when I was in junior high, there were so many Nastassja Kinski fans," Bong said. "[The film is] based on Thomas Hardy's 'Tess.' It was a big hit in Korea."

Bong also demonstrated his comprehensive knowledge of the work of legendary Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa.

"Of all the Kurosawa Shakespeare adaptations, ['Throne Of Blood'] is my favorite," he said, nabbing a Blu-ray of the film.

He also pointed to French director Marcel Camus's 1959 film "Black Orpheus," known for its legendary bossa nova soundtrack by Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Carlos Jobim, as having a major influence on him as child.

"When I was young, I saw it on TV in Korea and it made a big impression on me," Bong said.

Though his "favorite" film may surprise some "Snowpiercer" fans.

"This is my favorite, Henri-Georges Clouzot's masterpiece," Bong said, holding up a copy of the 1953 film "The Wages Of Fear."

With tastes spanning throughout decades and international borders, Bong also got a chance to replace some films he lost over the years, including another one on long term loan to another famous South Korean director.

"'Medium Cool,' I used to have this DVD a long time ago, but Park Chan Wook borrowed it," he said.

"He swiped it and never gave it back."
