2NE1's Dara Talks Almost Not Making The Group In Meg Magazine

Although Dara is now enjoying worldwide success with 2NE1, she was nearly deemed unsuitable for the group prior to its debut in 2009.

In the July issue of Manila's Meg Magazine, Sandara Park (now known as Dara of 2NE1) revealed some of the hardships she endured as a trainee under her record label, YG Entertainment.

"I always say that if you want something, try until you succeed," said Dara according to translations by YGLadies. "Never give up. Take me for example. I used to just be the 'sweet' type. I dreamed of becoming someone with swag, to have charisma on the stage. So I really tried to become a member of 2NE1."

However, Dara was allegedly removed from practicing with the other 2NE1 members after being deemed too sweet for the group's image.

"I was removed by my boss because I didn't belong, [because] the only thing I could do was the 'cutie' type," said the 29-year-old singer.

According to the interview, Dara managed to convince YG founder Yang Hyun Suk otherwise by singing "Get Right" by Jennifer Lopez.

"It's a hip hop song so I practiced it every day for two months. So when I performed it again in front of him he said, 'Okay, you can practice together with them again.'"

Because of this, "Get Right" remained a special song for Dara even after 2NE1's debut, and she performed it again on stage with her fellow 2NE1 members.

On July 5 and July 6, the ladies of 2NE1 held their "All or Nothing" concert at the Yokohama Arena in front of 34,000 fans, and will next be seen at the World Memorial Hall in Kobe, Japan on July 12 and July 13.
