HTC Waterproof Camera In The Works; Action Camera To Rival GoPro?

An HTC waterproof camera to rival the fame of GoPro is reportedly in the works.

According to Bloomberg, the first HTC waterproof camera is being developed and will be skewed towards extreme sports fans, much like the popular GoPro cameras.

The camera, which is said to be tubular in shape, will reportedly sport a 16 megapixel sensor and an ultra wide-angle lens. It will also be able to connect directly to Android and Apple products and will offer bluetooth and wi-fi connectivity.

The move is reportedly a part of the company's attempt to tap new markets as its smartphone sales have been declining.

If the specifications of the camera given by the anonymous insider to Bloomberg is to be believed, the HTC waterproof camera will deliver better image quality with its 16 megapixel sensor compared with the GoPro's 12 megapixels.

According to a report, apart from the HTC waterproof camera, the Taiwan-based company have previously started working on an Android Wear-based smartwatch but have opted to have it released early next year instead of its slated launch at the end of the year.

The news reportedly came out after the launch of Ricoh's action camera and the unveiling of a new GoPro focused on documenting events and surroundings according to how your pets view them with the use of a "Fetch dog harness."

Meanwhile, an invitation was sent out by HTC for an event on October 8 with the headline "double exposure," without divulging details as to what will be unveiled or launched or what the press event will showcase, prompting rumors and reports to speculate about the addition to its product line.

A smartphone focused on taking self portraits or selfies will reportedly be part of the cryptic launch.

While there is much fanfare about the HTC waterproof camera, a spokesperson from the company reportedly declined to comment whether there is truth to the speculations about the product development.
