Nam Joo Hyuk Talks About His Acting Motivation And Rising Popularity With Allure

Actor and model Nam Joo Hyuk, known to K-pop fans as the love interest of Akdong Musician's Lee Suhyun in the group's "200%" music video, had an in-depth interview in the February issue of Allure.

The young rising star posed with piles of books and discarded pages in a studio set that looked like a comfortable boarding school dorm. His wardrobe was composed of preppy dress shirts, thick cardigans and even a strapping suit, which created the perfect balance of sophistication and casual refinement.

During the accompanying interview, the actor discussed his acting motivation. He admitted, "When I debuted, it's probably because my goal was to be a model, but I didn't dream of being an actor...When I actually started acting, I realized it wouldn't work out if I didn't have self-confidence..."

Nam also revealed what he considered the hardest aspect of acting. He stated, "Emotional scenes are hard because I've never had one where I cry or laugh. I also have a complex about my awkward pronunciation because of my braces and my Busan accent. I was supposed to be done with braces by now, but my first dentist didn't do a good job, so another dentist told me I'd have to wear them two more years."

When the topic switched to the variety program Going Back To School, which jump-started his popularity, Nam was quick to admit that he loved being part of the starring cast. He revealed, "I've always enjoyed going to school...To be honest, I have no confidence about being in a variety program....However, I think the show displays my natural image..."
