Photo Of Cat Prompts Heated Debate On Twitter, 9gag: Is This Cat Going Up Or Down The Stairs?

Another viral photo of a cat has hit the interwebs, but this time it's sparked a debate as heated as the one about the color of this this dress. Users on 9gag and Twitter are giving their opinion on this photo: is the cat going up or down the stairs?

The photo, which features a cat halfway up (or down?) a staircase in grayscale, has received over 24,000 views on Imgur in six days and prompted nearly 7,000 comments when it was posted on 9gag.com, according to ABCNews.com.

One 9gag commenter explained their reasoning for the cat walking down the staircase: "Down because generally the wood would be flat on the horizontal portion of the stairs and the stone is on the back/vertical portion of the stairs."

A few Twitter users agreed that the "ridge" seen on the steps indicate that the camera is below the cat, meaning that the cat is climbing down the stairs.

Another 9gag commenter disagreed: "I would say this cat is going up as it looks a bit up and forward. When cats go down, they look where they're stepping, i.e. down."
