Classic Horror Flick 'It' Getting A Reboot; 'We're The Millers' Actor Will Poulter Cast As Pennywise

Stephen King classic "It" is getting a reboot from "True Detective" helmer Cary Fukanaga.

The project, which will be split into two films, will be produced by Seth Grahame-Smith (The Last American Vampire) and David Katzenberg.

The Hollywood Reporter explains "the plan is for the first movie to tell the kids' story and the second movie to focus on the adults."

Back in March, the director sat down with Portuguese newspaper El Globo (via Blastr) to update on the reboot.

"I've been in this project for about five years," Fukunaga revealed. "I had already read versions of the script but nothing felt right. Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two-hour movie. It didn't fit. So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch.

As for who will star as the hellish clown Pennywise:

"This will be my first movie in the U.S. and I'm still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise," he explained. "It's really good to know Stephen King likes what we did. We changed names, dates and dynamics, but the spirit is similar to what he'd like to see in cinemas, I think."

According to The Guardian, "The Maze Runner" and "We're The Millers" star Will Poulter is reportedly in the running to play the clown killer. The Briton first appeared in 2007's "Son of Rainbow," and followed up with 2010's "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."

Tim Curry was in his forties when he portrayed Pennywise in the "It" TV mini-series in 1990. The 22 year-old Poulter's involvment could indicate that the reboot will be an origin story, exploring the character's younger years.

"It" is due to begin production in June.
