2013 Oscars: Tribute to Movie Musicals Leaves Audience with Chills [VIDEO]

John Travolta, best known to his fans as greaser Danny Zuko introduced the 2013 Oscar's audience to a tribute to movie musicals. It started off with Catherine Zeta Jones reprising her role from the movie musical "Chicago." She wore a sexy black dress and danced on a piano while singing "All that jazz."

Then Jenifer Hudson appeared, wearing a floor length silver gown she sang a song from her film "Dream Girls." Afterwards she received a standing ovation.

But the moment from tonight's Oscars that was sure to have left the audience with chills was when the cast of "Les Mise'rables" came out to sing, one final time together.

It began with a sole spotlight on Hugh Jackman who was singing "one day more." Anne Hathaway followed singing "I dreamed a dream." Then the rest of the cast appeared belting out their song, receiving a rousing round of applause.

Les Mise'rables was a hit with critics not just for its outstanding songs, and scting but for the risk that director Tom Hooper took when he insisted the actors sing live on set.

It is the norm for actors to lip sync to pre-recorded music while filming a musical. Hooper wanted to go another way, which was a big risk for the actors and the directors.

The genre of movie musicals has been slowly making a comeback. Films like Chicago, Dream Girls, The Producers, Hairspray and now Les Mise'rables have opened up audiences to the acceptance of seeing beautiful choreography and hearing breath taking lyrics on screen.

This was proven tonight at the Academy Awards when Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her role in the film "Les Mise'rables".
