2 Men Die In Skydiving Fall

2 men from Iceland died Saturday while jumping with a group from the Skydive City Company in Florida.

One of the 2 men was a student the other a teacher. They were part of a group of 20 jumpers. When only 18 skydivers made it safely to the ground the remaining jumpers began a search for the 2 missing men.

Their bodies were found at 7:30 pm Saturday night. The 2 men died after a long fall, they landed in a forest near Zephyrhills Municipal Airport about 30 miles outside Tampa.

The names of the 2 men who died while skydiving have not been released since authorities still have to notify the families. Both men were from Iceland but it is unknown if they knew each other prior to their skydiving fall.

T.K Hayes is one of the owners of Skydive City he told the Tribune in 2010 that, "There had only been ten or twelve deaths in the company's 20 year history."

Last January an equipment malfunction caused the death of a 60-year-old woman skydiving with the company.

"Skydiving gets safer and safer every year, but it is still an extreme sport," he said to the Tribune in 2010.

The United States Parachute Association lists the number of fatalities from skydiving on their website. In 2012 19 people died out of the 3.1 million who jumped.

25 people were killed in 2011 out of the 3.1 million skydivers that jumped. In 2010 21 people died while skydiving out of 3.0 million jumpers. 2009 saw the lowest number of fatalities this decade with only 16 deaths out of 3.0 million jumps.

The cause of the latest skydiving accident that killed 2 men is still under investigation.
