Mark Harmon's Character Depends Heavily On Tony DiNozzo In 'NCIS' Season 13; Spoilers Hint At Huge Change

Agent Gibbs will suffer a massive emotional and physical change that he has to depend more on his protege, DiNozzo, going forward, according to the latest "NCIS" season 13 spoilers.

Showrunner Gary Glasberg talked to TV Fanatic about the changes that Mark Harmon's character will go through next season.

"He's shot in the chest, he has his knee replaced," he said. "It's an eye opener for him because the Gibbs character literally has to step back and say 'how many more lives does this cat have?' How much more can he live through and if he isn't around to take care of his family, then what happens to his family?

He teased more "NCIS" season 13 spoilers particularly on Mark Harmon's character as he said, "That's what we're going to see as the season progresses is you're going to see a change in Gibbs."

"You're going to see a physical change and an emotional change and Mark Harmon is really diving into that and making it unique. It's been exciting to watch and we've got some really emotional stuff coming up from him."

The synopsis teased spoilers for "NCIS" season 13 as it reads, "After being shot, Gibbs fights for his life aboard a Navy hospital ship, while DiNozzo and Joanna travel to Shanghai to try and take down the Calling."

But the showrunner said that DiNozzo taking the charge as the leader of the team may create friction between him and Agent Gibbs.

"Gibbs and Tony are really going to feel some tension between the two of them," he said. Gibbs is putting tremendous pressure on Tony. Having survived this, Gibbs really wants to know if this is what Tony wants. Does he want to be the leader? Does he want to be, in essence, to become Gibbs?"

Watch out for more "NCIS" season 13 spoilers which will be published here when they come along ahead of the airing date on Sept. 22.
