After successfully making a solo debut with "Birthday," Somi is gearing up for her return!
Jeon Somi then questioned the fans what kind of YouTube content they would prefer if she were to create her channel. Later on, the singer shared, "My energy was totally taken while I check out the YouTube channel of Jang Sung Kyu, who was an MC for my showcase. I find it very impressive. I am wondering whether or not I should make my videos like that too."
Somi has been well known even before she debuted and became an idol. At a very young age, Somi was cast in a few Korean dramas. In 2014, she, her mother and grandmother made an appearance on the 187th episode of "Hell Counselor." That same year, she had a cameo role in the film "Ode to My Father" together with her father and sister.
Also in 2014, Somi auditioned at JYP Entertainment and got accepted. In May 2015, she was one of the contestants in Mnet's reality survival show "Sixteen," where she competed against fifteen other trainees from JYPE to earn a spot for the label's new girl group, TWICE. However, she failed to do so.
In January 2016, she became the representative of JYPE on the reality survival program "Produce 101." In the final episode, she ranked first with the highest votes and debuted on May 4 as a member of project girl group I.O.I. But a year after, I.O.I officially disbanded. Jeon continued as an artist under JYPE, releasing songs and appearing on variety shows.
On August 28, 2018, Somi had terminated her contract, hence leaving the company. A month after, she signed an exclusive contract with The Black Label, YG Entertainment's subsidiary label. The artist then finally made her solo debut on June 13, 2019, with the track "Birthday." As of August 29, the music video for her debut single has more than 45 million views.
