These Female Soloists Soar High on The Music Charts This Summer

While girl groups are actively engaged in activities for the summer season, these soloists' activities are heating up, too! 

According to the Genie Chart in July, female solo singers from idol groups who entered the Top 10 were Hwasa (3rd), Sunmi (5th), and Chung Ha (6th). 

In July of last year, only Chung Ha's "Snapping," made it to the top 10 list. Also, Taeyeon was the most active singer on the chart in the first half of this year. The Girls' Generation leader who is also known for her solo performances performed the most songs among all singers. With her outstanding singing skills, Taeyeon sang back and forth in various genres, including ballads and dance, with "Four Seasons" (69th), "Bulti" (88th), and " Happy (89th) in the first half of Genie. 

Based on these female soloists' recognition as idols, they show their unique colors through their solo activities.

Hwasa's new song "Maria" also topped the charts immediately after the album's release with a charming voice and addictive chorus. He was also loved by global music fans and ranked 22nd in Billboard's "World Digital Song Sales Chart." Hwasa is a member MAMAMOO, who hit "Twit" last year, imprinting her fans on her solo artist image with intense colors. 

Sunmi, a former member of the girl group "Wonder Girls," ranked fifth on the Genie July chart with "Purple Night." The track features her fascinating visual performance and addictive melodies. Sunmi, who turned herself into a solo artist, is loved by the public for her hit songs "Gashina" (2017), "Siren" (2018), and "LALALAY" (2019). 

Chung Ha, ranked sixth on the Genie July chart, enjoyed explosive popularity with the release of her album, topping the Genie Real Time Chart for 82 hours with "Play." Singer Chung Ha, a former I.O.I member, has solidified her position as a solo singer with popular songs such as "Roller Coaster" (2018), "Gotta Go" (2019), "Snapping" (2019), and "Honestly Tired" (2020).

A Genie official said, "Female idols-turned-soloists are recognized as long-running singers who express their colorful music and communicates with the public through various activities such as dance, ballad, and OST."

Soloists who came from groups are noted to have a steady stream of followers among their fans who already supported their groups.
