On Jan. 28, some ENGENEs, the fandom of K-pop boy group ENHYPEN expressed their frustrations after they noticed similarities of the group's concept with JYP Entertainment's upcoming girl group.
In particular, the agency released an intro clip featuring NMIXX members, titled "New Frontier: Declaration," through its official sns accounts. While numerous K-pop enthusiasts conveyed their excitement and curiosity over the new girl group's concept, some ENGENEs and internet users reacted the other way.
On Twitter and online communities, netters pointed out that there are similarities between the groups, and it's a lot that it's hard to think that it is a coincidence.
First, both groups' debut introduction videos are in narrations. Indeed, this is common in the K-pop scene; however, one internet user highlighted that the scenes, words, and phrases included in the two clips resemble each other.
Second, ENHYPEN's fandom and NMIXX logos both carry the symbolism of "chromosomes." Although a certain shape is not owned by anyone, in the K-pop industry, a logo is very important as it represents the identity of the team; and its essence will lose if every group has it the same.
Third and last, netizens think that the title of the introduction videos was alike as well. NMIXX clip was named, "New Frontier: Declaration" while ENHYPEN's video is titled, "Border: CARNIVAL 'Intro: The Invitation."
NMIXX, ENHYPEN: Some ENGENEs Call Out JYP Entertainment Following Speculations of 'Plagiarism'
As a result, fans and supporters of ENHYPEN are quick to call out JYP Entertainment and convey their disappointment. Some said, "Please stop setting up your new girl group," HYBE should do something," "It's unfair," and more.
NMIXX fans then immediately defended JYP and the group, expressing that the alleged similarities are common in the K-pop industry. "It is common though," "Why do you need to hate NMIXX?" "Do you own narrations?" some web commenters retorted.
Other ENGENEs then clarified that they don't have anything against the soon-to-debut girl group, but they need JYP Entertainment's to clear this misunderstanding.
On the other, before their official debut, NMIXX dropped their trailer video "[NMIXX] Debut Trailer" and trailer photos, officially starting the countdown of their debut through the official SNS channel.
In the video, NMIXX, which appeared with a strong wave and intense sound that seemed to predict the launch of the all-time new face, boasted a dazzling visual with luxurious and unique styling.
JYP Entertainment's new girl group NMIXX is set to debut in February.
