Why Did BTS 'On & Off' Change to 'Suite Life'? Media Outlet Hints at Possible Reason

Amid the excitement of ARMYs for BTS's new content "On & Off," another fandom complained about THIS reason, which is why HYBE allegedly decided to change the name.

BTS Releases Teaser Photos for Membership Content 'ON & OFF'

On July 13, global boy group BTS released its membership content for ARMY (fandom) through its fan community platform, Weverse.

In the post, the name of the content was initially introduced as "BTS ON & OFF," and the teaser photos released showed the images of seven members.

In the post, the members appeared to follow the theme "On and Off" as they flaunted their duality, wearing either two different expressions, outfits or hairstyles.

However, on July 14, a day after the release of the content's name, it was suddenly changed to BTS's "Suite Life" for unknown reasons. ARMYs then thought that there was no need to change the title since it matched the concept, but one fandom actually complained about the content name.

ONF Fans Criticize BTS' New Content's Title

According to the report of Top Star News, fans of ONF, called Fuse, expressed their displeasure following the release of BTS's membership content's theme "ON & OFF. Korean fans went on by explaining:

"The name of the content overlapping the group name is unpleasant."

ONF is originally a seven-member (hereinafter six-member) team launched by WM Entertainment in 2017. Their group's name is short for "On N' Off" derived from "On and Off." Since debut, they've been using this concept, even releasing an album with the title, "On/Off."

Due to this, the boy group's fans commented:

"Why do you use the name of your fellow idol groups for content names when the group name is already registered as a trademark?"

Nevertheless, some countered these remarks with:

  • "There was 'On & Off' in entertainment, wasn't it uncomfortable?"
  • "It's too forced to argue."
  • "I shouldn't even use On and Off from now on."

As the issue intensified, BTS revised the content name to "BTS SUITE LIFE" as if it recognized it.

Meanwhile, ONF released their sixth mini-album "Goosebumps" in December last year and performed their last activities before joining the military.

Currently, ONF's Hyojin, E-Tion, J-Us, Wyatt, and MK, except for foreign member U, have all joined the army at the same time to minimize the gap in group activities.

As for BTS, the group who dropped their anthology album "PROOF" in June, announced that they will focus on their solo careers while continuously participating in group activities.

This year, BTS Jin is also expected to enter the military before 2022 ends.
