BoA's introduction in the ongoing hit drama, "Marry My Husband," drew criticism for the presumed changes in her visuals that made her "unrecognizable."

BoA Criticized for Changes in Visuals — Did She Have Plastic Surgery?

On February 5, BoA sent music and drama fans into a frenzy when she confirmed her appearance in the tvN's hit series, "Marry My Husband," starring Park Min Young, Na In Woo, Lee Yi Kyung and Song Ha Yoon.

Based on the web novel, the "K-pop Queen" plays as the villain Oh Yura, Yoo Ji Hyuk's (Na In Woo) ex-fiancée, who is a chaebol's granddaughter showered with money and privileges.

When the news about her participation in the drama came out, there were high expectations as this is her first acting gig in about 8 years since she did JTBC’s "My Wife’s Having an Affair This Week" in 2016.

In the teaser for next week's episode, BoA's character, Yura, confronts the role of Park Min Young, Kang Ji Won, and she boasts the powerful aura of an heiress.

While some of the web novel fans recognized that she successfully embodies Oh Yura's image, others titled their heads and questioned if they were actually seeing BoA or another person.

Based on netizens' comments, the K-pop idol-actress looks "unrecognizable," and immediately, plastic surgery rumors arose due to alleged changes in her facial features, particularly her lips, nose, and jaw.

While BoA originally boasted simple and natural visuals since debut, people expressed regret that she presumably made changes to her already pretty face.

In an online community, Korean netizens left comments such as:

  • "I was watching with my husband and I was like, 'Oh there she is Kwon BoA' and he was like 'Who's Kwon BoA' and I was like 'BoA~' and he was like 'What happened to her face?' I guess we are not the only ones who feel that way."
  • "She needs to file a lawsuit against her clinic. Why does she look like this?"
  • "I'm more surprised because I couldn't even recognize her."
  • "She used to be so pretty back then."
  • "What happened to her lips? Everything looks so awkward from her philtrum down. She looks like a grandma from the nose down. Disappointing. What a shame."

Even K-drama fans criticized BoA, saying:

  • "I'm sorry but she's no match for Ji Won (Park Min Young). Is there no one who's way prettier than her who could actually threaten Ji Won's beauty?"
  • "I don't like her beauty. She's not even on par with Ji Won."
  • "She's not pretty for me."
  • "Her face makes my blood boil."

  • "I super hate her character but she's so good. I want to see her in more drama in the future."
  • "Don't listen to them! You're so pretty, Oh Yura, BoA unnie!"
  • "Mother!!"
  • "Our evil queen!"
  • "I'm only watching this drama because of her, I can't wait to see evil BoA."
