Why Joseph Gordon-Levitt Felt Nudity Would Be 'Distracting' In 'Don Jon' With Scarlett Johansson

Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote and directed "Don Jon," where he stars as a man obsessed with pornography. Though "Don Jon" features multiple love scenes with his co-star Scarlett Johansson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt revealed that neither of them have any nude scenes.

"It would just be distracting," Joseph Gordon-Levitt told Q Syndicate in an interview, NewNowNext.com reports. "This is not a movie of brutal realism; it's a comedy and it's a story. It's sort of a parable, so there would really be no reason to have any nudity."

The latest trailer for "Don Jon" even shows Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson making out in a hallway before making love.

In the interview, Gordon-Levitt also discussed what it's like to direct himself in a sex scene.

"See, the sex scenes - with one exception - are very, very highly stylized and they're not so much scenes that play out in real time; they're more like narrated storybook versions of a look inside the mind of this guy, and so shooting them is like putting together a puzzle. They're made of lots of little pieces. When you put the puzzle together it seems like a sex scene, but when you're shooting it, it's not like that at all," Joseph Gordon-Levitt explained.

Joseph, who is making his directorial debut with "Don Jon," reveals why he decided to take on such a scandalous subject, Hollywood Life reports.

"I thought the idea of a guy, who watches too much pornography," Gordon-Levitt says. "And a young woman, who watches too many romantic Hollywood movies, was a hilarious way to ask the question: How do the different kinds of media we consume impact our lives and our love lives?"

The film hits theaters Sept. 27.
