‘Spy Kids’ Actress Alexa Vega Stars In New Movie ‘2Br/1Ba,’ Gets Picked For US Distribution But Is It A Ripoff of 2LDK? Watch Trailer [VIDEO]

The 25-year-old actress Alexa Vega has come a long way since the 'Spy Kids' franchise. Alexa Vega dabbled in a music career, got divorced, got remarried and is now starring in an indie movie called '2br/1ba' directed by Rob Margolies. The good news is that this movie won't die a small death in the indie movie circuit. The production companies, Grindstone Entertainment and Lionsgate have picked '2Br/1Ba' for U.S. distribution. Will Alexa Vega, who had her heyday with 'Spy Kids' movies in her teens, get a career boost through '2Br/1Ba'?

'2Br/1Ba' follows the story of two starkly different roommates, played by Alexa Vega and Spencer Grammer, who deal with each other's irreconcilable differences in the space of a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. As this movie is a thriller and not French naturalism, Alexa Vega and Spencer Grammer's conflict takes on a suspenseful tone that goes beyond a typical 'did you take out the trash' roommate squabble.

But there are rumors that '2Br/1Ba' is a ripoff of an already-existing Japanese movie called '2LDK'. This movie, produced in 2003, is about two ambitious actresses, who happen to be roommates, that go head-to-head for a coveted role in an upcoming film. At the end, they end up killing each other. That must have been quite a catfight.

The speculation that '2Br/1Ba' is a ripoff of a Japanese movie is not a shocker though. For some reason, American filmmakers love adapting a great Asian movie into a subpar English rendition. 'The Ring', 'Old Boy', 'The Grudge', 'Godzilla', the list goes on.

Alexa Vega looks pretty good in '2Br/1Ba', sporting a vacuum cleaner as a weapon to strike down her roommate. Knowing her background as a kid agent in 'Spy Kids', she is definitely fit enough to take down anyone in her path.
