Woody Allen’s ‘Magic In The Moonlight’ Not So Magical According To Rotten Tomato Reviews: Emma Stone And Colin Firth Shines, Others Dull, Watch Trailer Here [VIDEO]

Woody Allen has never had a precious attitude towards filmmaking. It seems like whatever the guy churns out gets produced instantly for the better or for worse. His latest ‘Magic in the Moonlight’, featuring Emma Stone and Colin Firth, will probably get a lot of people lined up in front of indie cinemas (though he is hardly indie) across the country, but the Rotten Tomato reviews warn against high expectations.

Watch the trailer for ‘Magic in the Moonlight’ here:

Set in the French Rivera in the 1920s when expats were able to enjoy their luxuries without having to worry about people dying in the war, ‘Magic in the Moonlight’ tells the story of a cynical British magician (Colin Firth) who is trying to debunk the psychic activities of a socialite (Emma Stone). The trailer hits that the real “magic” may happen between the two leading characters.

Knowing that Colin Firth is 53 and Emma Stone 25, that romantic relationship is just a tiny bit gross. When will Hollywood stop casting older man against super young ingenues?

Anyway, currently ‘Magic in the Moonlight’ stands at 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Woody Allen’s latest creation has received a rather lukewarm reception. But it’s doing a little bit better than his previous based-in-Europe film, ‘To Rome with Love’, which stands at an embarrassing 43%.

Out of the reviews, the Village Voice published the least favorable review, “ "The heart wants what it wants," Woody Allen has taught us, and apparently what his heart wants these days is not to have to bother with writing second drafts of film scripts.”

Yikes. Other reviews were slightly more favorable, especially when it came to Emma Stone and Colin Firth’s performance.

Variety wrote that “Whenever Firth and Stone are onscreen together, the movie sings; the rest of the time it’s never less than a breezy divertissement.”

The most positive reviews of the pack were not too enthused about ‘Magic in the Moonlight’ either. The Film.com’s Jordan Hoffman wrote, “It isn't as showy or obvious as one of Allen's (many) masterpieces, but it is quite good and deserves your time and respect.”

Woody Allen’s ‘Magic in the Moonlight’, starring Emma Stone, Colin Firth and Simon McBurney, will have a limited release in the US on July 25, 2014.
